The Host

The Host - Stephenie Meyer....Wow.

I first read the book "The Host" quite a few years ago, pretty much when it first came out. I actually enjoyed the book more than the twilight series. I fell in love with the characters and the storyline, I grew really attached to the book - put it this way, it was hard to put down.

And now years later, it is a movie. I actually would recommend reading the book before watching the movie as it kind of explains things a bit more in the book. I really enjoyed the movie. I even had a few tears at one stage.

Would recommend this movie, I loved it.

(in saying that, peoples opinions are different)

Rockingham and Freo Op Shops

Hi All,

Yesterday was a beautiful day for a winters day. My sister and I decided to go Op shopping. I was a little upset to find that my fave Op shop had closed for the day at 12pm, but there is always next time.

My bargains for the day consisted of a nice vase with fake flowers/leaf arrangement which was $15! (pretty good considering would have been about $80 from thingz living and it was in mint condition). Also bought a new work skirt, perfect condition for $4, pair of jeanswest jeans for $6, new navy flanno for $4 and a jeanswest grey jacket for $3! They all look brand new and are currently in the washing machine getting nice and clean and sparkling :).

Rockingham Beach Salvos - 6 Patterson Road, Rockingham Beach WA
Open: Mon-Fri 9.00-5.30 and Sat 9.00-5.00  Contact: 0592 7459

So this is where the first bargain of the day was bought, by my sister - an awesome colorful bag (backpack) which was $7! Was awesome! I found it to be a little bit overpriced for somethings, I found that with most of the salvos stores, but they had some pretty cool stuff in here, especially jackets.

Our next stop was my favourite one, which was closed :(

Uniting Church Op Shop - 169 Parkin Street, Rockingham WA
Open: Mon-Fri 10.00-3.30pm and Sat 8.00-12.00pm Contact: 9527 4660

I really wish this Op shop was open because usually when I go in here they have awesome stuff and it is so cheap! I once found a mint skirt and an awesome bag from there. Wish it was open.

Good Sammy's - 12/8 Livingstone Road, Rockingham WA
Open: Mon-Fri 9.00-5.30pm and Sat 9.00-5.00pm Contact: 9592 5089

This is where I found my bargain vase and flower/leaf arrangement from! They did not have a large variety of  dresses but there selection of jeans was pretty good. They didn't really have much in my size though, lots of size 12's if you are a size 12 this would be the place to have a look!

Vinnies Rockingham Centre -15/8 Livingstone Road, Rockingham WA
Open: Mon-Fri 9.00-4.00pm and Sat 9.00-1.00pm Contact: 9528 1071

Unfortunately we went to Good Sammy's next door first and by the time we were done in there it was closing time for Vinnies :(. They looked like they had some pretty good stuff though! Until next time...

Salvos - 23 Saltaire Way, Port Kennedy WA
Open: Mon-Fri 9.00-5.30pm and Sat 9.00-5.00pm Contact: 9524 6987

This Op shop wasnt bad at all. It was a little bit overpriced (as I think most salvos are) but they had a great selection of clothes. I did not buy anything from here because nothing tickled my fancy but they definitely had a lot to offer!

Anglicare - 181 High Street, Fremantle WA
Open: Mon-Sat 9.00-5.00pm and Sun 12.00-5.00pm Contact: 6424 7655

Out of all the Op shops we went into for the day, I would have to say this would be one of my favourites. I bought a pair of jeans and I am pretty sure I bought something else, But i cannot remember now... But the jeans selection was awesome! I would highly recommend. Had some pretty cool bags as well and lots of vintage items which was great. Worth a look!

Vinnies Retro - 2/142 High Street, Fremantle WA
Open: Mon-Fri 9.00-4.30pm Sat 9.30-3.30pm and Sun 11.00-5.00pm Contact: 9335 6890

This place had some pretty awesome stuff in there, but it was extremely expensive. I mean I did not pay much attention to the tags and where the clothes were originally from, but the cheapest item of clothing I could see was around $20, which is not really my idea of Op shopping. So, if you have a big budget for Op shopping, then sure this place is pretty cool, but if you are looking for a bargain, steer clear.

Good Sammy's - 142 High Street, Fremantle WA
Open: Mon-Fri 9.00-5.30pm Sat 9.00-5.00pm and Sun 12.00-4.00pm Contact: 9335 7921

I quite like this Good Sammy store, they had 50% off all recycled clothing, which was awesome! I got this sweet grey jeans west jacket that was in great condition for $3!!! There were alot of jeans, jackets, t-shirts, cardigans and all sorts and I probably could have bought alot more from there If i wanted to, but I didnt. Next time though :)

Salvos Fremantle - 3/5 Josephson Street, Fremantle WA
Open: Mon-Fri 9.00-5.00pm and Sat 9.00-5.00pm Contact: 9336 2026

So this was pretty much our last stop for the day. I ended up buying a flanno and a nice work skirt from here which cost I think $11 in total. They were in great condition too! They had quite alot in this store, especially shoes, but I dont really like buying second hand shoes. Pretty good store overall. They even had a retro/vintage section which was pretty cool.

Overall I had a great day. After op shopping, we ended up going to the freo markets and getting a freshly squeeze Orange Juice and I got a salted caramel macaroon, which was delicious! And then we headed home.

Let me know if you know of anymore good Op shops !! hope you liked my blog!

The joys of my morning coffee today

It is such a beautiful day today, sunny and not a cloud in the sky -

just kidding, its actually pooring down rain and cold. I am at work, drinking my mocha coffee and it is keeping me nice and warm. I have my coat/jacket on me like a blanket as well! I don't usually drink coffee all that much, but I have actually taken a liking to the nescafe sachet ones - I know its not really REAL coffee but its a good alternative when you cannot really have caffeiene anyway due to it making you feel ill!

I have so much darn paperwork to do! Thats what happens when you have a couple of days off work from being sick with a cold and then coming back to month end paperwork. It sucks.

I don't actually have many/any followers on my blog or even many people that view it, but I like to talk to myself, I mean who doesnt? And obviously ask myself questions and cyberspace questions that will more than likely not get answered.

But just out of curiosity and for the off chance that someone replies, here is my question to you today:

Do you like coffee? Why/Why not? And what is your FAVOURITE?

One of my faves is the nescafe whit choc mocha sachets as well as good ol' italian style brewed coffee on the stove - fave brand = rubra!

Finding a new calm.

So this week I have been working in the city and obviously having to get the train into work.
Usually I drive into work and it takes me about 15 minutes on the freeway (I work kind of local to where I live).

Anyway - this morning on the train I was thinking to myself that it would be nice to be able to relax and chill out more, not have to worry about things and just be melow. I googled a few things but because my signal kept cutting out during my journey to work I was unsuccessful in finding something to read about in order to chill out.

Instead I sat there and was looking at all of the different types of people on the train whether they were of a different race, colour, age, gender and so forth and just thinking of how stereotypical people can be. I got into a long train of thought "train - haha" and was thinking about how most people in todays society are racist, myself included. I will not go out of my way to find something to say about someone else, however unintentionally people do it all the time whether it be "those asian drivers", "typical bogan", "taxi drivers" and the list goes on. I personally want to see things differently and not let myself be influenced by all of the racist slurr as well as day to day jargon that is passing off negative energy.

I want to find a new balance, a new calm.

I am setting myself a goal, one of finding a new way to calm my inner judgement as well as having a relaxed approach to situations. I want to be a happier person, smile more, relax more and I want people around me to benefit off my positive energy.

I do not wish to sound like a whack job but I want to better myself, I know I am not the only one.

Lets see how I go.

KONY 2012...Fact or Fiction?

Okay, so I have seen alot of comments regarding this KONY 2012 "thing". I am sitting on the fence with this one. There are reasons for either side that I can see it 1. Being Fake or 2. Being Real... I guess what worries me is that we cannot be so sure, are we falling victim to clever techniques used to make us feel sorry for something we actually cant make a difference towards, or is it that it is true and we can really make a difference if we all put our hearts and minds to it.. Well that leads me to the question that I have for you!

IS KONY 2012 FACT OR FICTION?

This is my take (the fencing sitting):

It is...FACT
  • There are real problems in the world and we know child soldiers are one of them
  •  Joseph Kony is actually a war criminal
  • Jacob Acaye, the former child soldier featured in the film, supported the video and defended its makers.[
  • They made a pretty good 30 minute video with some hard hitting facts and evidence about the problem
 It is...FICTION
  • They have not portrayed a story of understanding around it, it is a very black and white picture and it is merely a hate campaign towards a single person. (getting rid of one person wont solve the problem)
  • I have heard it is about the money and 75% of the money goes towards costs, airfares etc
  • Some people have not even got their Kony packs and it is well after the Kony day (20 April 2012).
  • I understand to use social media as a tool to getting people to know more however do you really trust everything you see on TV? No? Then why do the same for social networking sites?
Its not that I do not believe there is not a problem and that Joseph Kony is not a bad person, however selling packs to people to raise money "supposedly" to raise awareness I just don't see how they fit hand in hand. However I do think if you really want to stand up for something you truely believe in go ahead mate I aint stopping you. But comments would be great, let me know what you really think about KONY 2012?

Blueberries

Okay. So I went to Bali not long ago, and I was unfortunate enough to get sick! It was not 'bali belly' but food poisoning. Anyway! About 3 weeks later I thought my tummy bug was coming back again but it turns out that I am actually allergic to Blueberries! I ate them once and got so sick, I started sweating, getting a fever, short of breath, really grumbly tummy and nauseous. I didn't even think that it would be from food so I just assumed that I was getting my tummy bug back again. BUT then it happened again! 15 minutes after I ate 4 blueberries.

So there you have it, I am allergic to blueberries, who would have thought. Apparently you can get food allergies at any stage in your life, which is obvious because I have always been able to have them before. It sucks they are so good!

So be careful peeps you never know when you might have a food allergy!

Strawberry Milk

Its funny how strawberry milk can be called strawberry milk...it tastes nothing like strawberries. They should just call it 'Pink Milk' or 'Yellow Milk' at least it would be a true reflection of the colour and not link it back to the taste of a fruit...sugary milk = fruit taste HAHA yeah right! Should invent a 'Blue Milk' I reckon that will get the kidie winks going.

I really want to move into my house already. Settlement was due for Friday the 13th...I know black friday. And it was real grim for me as settlement did not go ahead. It amazes me how you can lock into a contract, have a date set but people just do not stick to it. For those of you out there who are settlement agents, kudos to you for putting up with the banks and stupid people. Fingers crossed I get to move in at the end of this week, I want to so badly! My beautiful new house with wooden floorboards, high ceilings, big kitchen, awesome wardrobe and bathrooms and outdoor area, OH the list goes on. Please let this weekend be the weekend that we can move into our new home.

So I was at the train station the other day and it really shocked me as to the amount of litter there was on the ground. But not just plain old rubbish and milk carton litter, but cigarettes. It was DISGUISTING! There should be a law against littering cigarette butts!

Plain packaging is not going to make people stop smoking it will probably make them want to smoke more! When you think about it, people will not need to see what brand they are smoking, they will not care, they will just smoke any old cigarette that comes there way. If you really want to combat smoking make them pay more for them. Make people who smoke have to attend a seminar once a quarter to see the affects of smoking I dont know. I know that it is a "personal choice" but when I am walking through the city and the person in front of my lights up a cigarette, I get a full mouthful of smoke, where is the free chocie in that!!! I do not want to smoke thank you very much but I do not get a say I just have to breath in your filth. Have some respect!

Observation Deck

Is being observant a good thing or a bad thing?
Unfortunately for me it is both. I pick up annoying habits of people, however it allows me to make a joke about it to others in a "nice" kind of way.

For example...
Good - It is good because I find out peoples true traits by the things they do everyday
          - I can jokingly make fun of them (of course with them knowing and not in a crude way)
          - I can share common traits that I may myself do the same as others

Bad    - I notice when people clear their throat all the time and it gets frustrating
          - Sometimes I pick up on these bad traits e.g. sniffing, speaking of words a certain way etc
          - It impacts upon how I view a person

I mean it cannot all be that bad really. I know I would prefer it sometimes if people were more observant with the things I did - GOOD things I do, so I can get some credit for it. I don't really like how people take credit for something you have done. I created something all by myself and mastered the whole thing, and then this other person goes and takes majority of the credit for it and just makes out like I "helped"... I DID THE WHOLE THING DAMMIT!.

Anyway, I'm sure many of us out there have been in the same situation and observe peoples traits like I do - less or more.

Just have to have another day of looking and observing people in life.

The most cliche buy from a supermarket ever!

Okay, so I was really craving some chocolate. SO I decided to go down to the local supermarket and buy a block of snack chocolate. Then I realised that I had run out of tampons and needed to buy more. So I bought a block of chocolate and a pack of tampons - who says women don't crave chocolate when they get their period is crazy....I have definitely proved that theory correct today with my cliche shopping spree!

Maybe If I had followers I could ask them what their most cliche buy was...like buying beer and a packet of chips to go with it...or something exciting!

Imagine If...

Imagine if the world was a safer place, without people threatening others with knives, stealing, killing people, destroying things and just being a criminal. I would love to be able to feel safe enough to go for a walk at 9pm at night along the beach or through a park; but that will never happen, why? Because there are people out there who wait for people to walk along the street when its dark just to mug them, rape them or worse, kill them. I do not know what possesses the mind of those who do bad things but it would be a nice thought if you were able to do that.

There is a lot of slander about certain suburbs being worse than others, but really they are all the same, they just have some different elements. It is not only the people in the suburbs that are doing the wrong thing that make it look bad, but it is also the people who are recognising this and judging their own community as being a "scummy place" and this makes them part of the problem.

People need to have more respect and understand that life does have an ending and you should make the most of it. Do not take things for granted and try to enjoy as much as you can with the time you have, because you never now, tomorrow might just be your last day to see.

Cold winter days..

So it is quiet chilly today and I bought a sandwich to lunch.

Don't get me wrong it is nice, lettuce, ham, avacoda etc. but I just can't seem to eat it on such a cold day.

I want a soup or a nice curry or something like that...mmm it would be nice.

I have a sore back though and really can not move from my work desk to be bothered to go and get one.

Instead I will compensate and have a cup of green tea.

What are your thoughts, hot food for a cold day?

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

I love it when you plan to do something and it just never goes that way...

Don't you just love it when you plan something and it never ever turns out.

Like lets wake up at 6am tomorrow and go for a jog?

How about not eating chocolate for a month or doing exercise for 10 minutes every night?

Today I woke up, went to the doctors, found out my blood test results, they were all good which is fantastic. Got home, then left to go to work again. Of course on the way to work I got stuck behind a slow person who obviously does not know how to drive because NOBODY seems to know how to drive these days.

Taking for example the concept of merging, I think rather than two lanes forming into one its more like the person in one lane trying to get ahead of the person in the other lane to cause a traffic jam or accident because they are such an arrogant asshole. Yeah that sounds about right.

To all those people out there who have never let me merge properly DAMN YOU! LEARN HOW TO DRIVE!

And for the girl who walked out in front of my car at a round about because she didn't look because she was TEXTING ON HER MOBILE - look next time or I might not hit the brakes in time!!!

But if I did hit her it would be my fault even thuogh i didn't expect an idiot to just walk in front of a car.

Thats enough whining from me.
Goodnight!
